1  "Redeeming Our Time" / 1 John Study / Re: 1 John 2:9-11 on: January 14, 2009, 12:00:54 pm
Ohh... I like the notion of "spiritual perspective" to explain darkness.  It is so easy for me to have my worldly perspective on life so I definitely want to aim to have a spiritual perspective instead.  Always asking myself "Does this have eternal value or worth?"  The most difficult part is when I am in darkness, I don't always realize it or I justify it.  The more we walk with God, the more we want to, but the opposite can be true as well and I know there have been times in my life where I continued to walk in darkness because I wanted to... I didn't want to make that CHOICE to let Christ be the center of my life and decisions.
2  "Redeeming Our Time" / Prayer Requests / Need a Church Home on: January 09, 2009, 09:01:45 am
Hi, Ladies!
As I was posting today, I mentioned that my husband and I are still looking for a church home.  Though we have the same beliefs, we differ in how we worship... my husband likes the VERY traditional services and I like the VERY praise and worship ones.  We both desire to find a church that teaches the BIBLE and where the focus is truly on knowing His Word, but we would also like to find this in a church that isn't HUGE which is difficult to find in the area we live in...  Please pray that God will guide and direct us to the perfect church and that ultimately, He will focus us on where He wants us to be and not on what we think we want or need in a church (how selfish!).  We are both very frustrated with church hopping and can't wait to be in a constant place of worship!
Thanks,
Michelle

"I think this is really important because in this day and age there is a growing incomplete gospel that only focuses on the love of God and what God can do for you."

I completely agree Sarah Mae... in fact, my husband and I are really struggling to find a church home for this very reason.  (Hmm... Probably should add that to the prayer list.)  So many pastors have abandoned teaching the Bible... instead sermons are very antidotal and "feel good" messages...  All about what is in it for you and not all about how to know Christ and serve Him out of love and devotion (even during the difficult times.)
Anyway, it is difficult to be a Christian in today's society (though probably just as difficult as in the time this passage was written) because everyone has an opinion on how a Christian ought to act, what they should look like, how they should talk, etc., but ultimately one's salvation is not based on any of these things and only on one's belief in Him and that can't always be seen.  However, when I read this passage, I am definitely convicted to know that my walk DOES matter and that my fellowship with Him and testimony to the world are dependent on keeping His commands.

What stood out to me was the last part of verse 10 that says "His word has no place in our lives" because I see such truth in this statement.  When I am in the Word every day and in my fellowship with Christ, I am constantly convicted of my sin, but when I am struggling with my quiet time, I often don't recognize my sin since "His word" is not speaking to my heart.  It is so clear in this passage that this is how God designed us to be... He designed us with a need to be in fellowship with Him through His word and that without it, we are deceived by ourselves, the world, Satan, etc.
