We had a women's mentoring program at our old church. Anyone who was willing to participate filled out a form, and women were paired up based on what they said they wanted or needed. I saw some really neat relationships come out of it, but I also saw the program fail sometimes. I did not like that there was an emphasis for older women to be the mentors only. I felt like I wanted to be mentored, but I also had a heart to mentor someone who wasn't as far along on the journey as me, and I don't think that would have been taken well because I was still in my 20s at the time. There was too much emphasis on age. I also don't think a lot of the women who would have made the best mentors filled out the forms because they didn't see what they had to offer. The program sometimes seemed forced to me. I think it is good to be intentional, but sometimes the most meaningful relationships occur more naturally.
