So, I counted, and John mentions the word "love" twenty-seven times in this chapter alone! And that's after he focused on it in chapter 2 already. Obviously it's a huge deal, so I started to think about how well I love others. I know I tend to be too hard on myself, and I don't think I'm often terribly unloving (at least intentionally or knowingly), but I also am not always good about showing love to people outside my immediate circle. Here is my prayer this morning:
God, please help me to see others around me who need your love, and give me wisdom about how to show it to them. Help me to get past myself and my needs and be intentional about reaching out to those around me. Put clear opportunities in my path to love on others, and help me to see them. Forgive me for being selfish and unloving and for being blind to those who need your love. Reveal yourself to me. Amen.
